For a little inspiration, here are some more rehab success stories!
We love to highlight our short-term therapy graduates to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage anyone who may be considering inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation for themselves or a loved one.
If you are wondering if short-term rehabilitation would benefit you and your family, take a look at the following patient outcomes!
Ken Partin was admitted to Life Care Center of Westlake following a stroke. Upon his arrival, Ken was unable to walk, communicate, or care for himself.
He was also suffering from severe weakness and was unable to move the right side of his body. His stroke had caused aphasia, which is the inability to express or understand written and spoken language.
Ken worked hard in physical, occupational, and speech therapies to regain the function he lost after the stroke.
After just two months, he went from being wheelchair bound to walking independently, without any assisted device. He was also able to dress and bathe on his own, with assistive devices.
The most difficult challenge for Ken was overcoming his aphasia. He worked tirelessly with our speech therapy staff to regain his ability to communicate, and after several months of hard work, he is now able to clearly communicate his wants and needs.
Ken will soon discharge from our facility and move into his own Assisted Living apartment where he can live independently within the community.
Congratulations, Ken, on overcoming your challenges in therapy, and thank you for allowing us to assist you in your journey!
Barbara admitted to Life Care Center of Sullivan after receiving treatment for a fall that fractured her right femur.
When she arrived, she had limited bed mobility and needed help with walking, dressing, and bathing. She required a wheelchair to perform most daily tasks.
In her physical and occupational therapy programs, her goals included rebuilding her strength for independent transfers, walking, and standing and reclaiming her ability to dress on her own. This would allow her to return home safely.
Barbara made incredible progressing during her therapy regimen and no longer needs her wheelchair. She can walk with a front-wheeled walker for 400 feet without assistance and is independent with all self-care tasks. She can even walk up and down stairs with only stand-by assistance!
Congratulations to Barbara, and best of luck to her as she transitions back home.
Catalina arrived at Life Care Center of Yuma following a serious brain hemorrhage with loss of consciousness.
At admission, she had decreased strength and extreme pain that left her totally dependent in all areas of daily living and self-care, such as dressing, bathing, and walking.
After therapists evaluated her needs, she began occupational therapy and physical therapy five days a week. Occupational therapy focused on increasing her upper body strength and independence with all self-care tasks. Physical therapy helped her strengthen her lower body, improve her gait, and become independent with bed mobility and transfers.
Catalina met her recovery goals in less than a month! With her independence with daily living activities and self-care tasks restored, she returned home to be with her family. While at home, she will continue in-home therapy.
"I had a good experience here. I made a lot of progress. I feel perfect with no pain! I feel very good about the CNAs and nurses that helped me all day and all night." –– Catalina
We are so proud of Catalina and wish her all the best at home!
