Life Care Center of New Market is always proud to share a patient’s short-term therapy success story. But when that patient is one of their very own associates, the pride meter jumps more than a few notches.
Beatrice Shumaker has been the receptionist at the New Market facility for over eight years. She recently had spinal surgery, which left her struggling to function in day-to-day activities.
Walking, balancing, and taking care of daily tasks, such as grooming and dressing, were no longer possible for her to do independently.
To regain her ability to perform her daily tasks, or functional mobility, Beatrice needed to undergo short-term therapy. Where she received short-term therapy was her choice, and she had several options to choose from.
But Beatrice knew the level of care, compassion, and skill the therapy and nursing teams at Life Care Center of New Market employed to help patients regain their strength and ability after illness or surgery.
In fact, she had already experienced the facility’s high-quality care on a personal level. Her husband had recently received inpatient and outpatient therapy at the New Market rehabilitation gym and had just graduated from his physical therapy program!
So, for Beatrice, the choice was easy.
She chose Life Care Center of New Market for inpatient short-term therapy.
After her personalized evaluation, Beatrice participated in physical therapy and occupational therapy five days a week, doing exercises and treatments that focused on improving her balance, gait, and ability to perform activities of daily living on her own.
It didn’t take long for her to make progress.
“Beatrice made significant strides with her functional ability and pain levels. She was able to transition to our outpatient program to further improve her mobility as well as return to work,” said Jamie McNamara, Director of Rehab Services at Life Care Center of New Market.
Beatrice met all her recovery goals and is now back at work and continuing to make gains in her outpatient therapy program.
“I had a great experience!” Beatrice said. “I found the therapists that I have worked with friendly but motivating. They thoroughly explained to me how each exercise helped my recovery.”
We are so proud of Beatrice and wish her all the best as she continues to rebuild her strength and maximize her independence!
If you’re ever in the New Market area, stop by the facility and tell Beatrice congratulations on her short-term therapy success!
